Jaspr Health Platform to become part of routine care across Allina Health’s twelve EDs

Minneapolis, MN (Sept 29, 2021) – Allina Health, a regional leader in mental health and addiction services in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin, and Jaspr Health, a Seattle-based behavioral health digital technology company, today announced a new partnership aimed at reducing the growing rate of suicide throughout the region. The partnership will include the use of Jaspr Health’s suicide prevention digital platform for people who are acutely at risk for suicide and seeking psychiatric crisis services from one of Allina Health’s twelve emergency departments (EDs).

“This partnership allows Allina Health to serve patients in ways not previously possible,” said Brian Palmer, MD, Vice President for Mental Health and Addiction Services at Allina Health. “In addition to expanding and improving the patient experience with state-of-the-art technology, we will be better able to engage with patients during a time of crisis through evidence-based interventions in our emergency departments. Our ED crisis clinicians provide outstanding care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and this tool will help them help their patients even more effectively.”

Allina Health and Jaspr Health are currently developing the implementation plan for Jaspr Health’s science-validated, suicide-specific digital care platform to be integrated into Allina Health’s standard emergency department (ED) workflow and electronic health record system (EHR) to enhance the care for patients who arrive at the ED with a mental health crisis or are identified as suicidal through routine screening.

Jaspr’s digital platform combines evidence-based and clinically proven behavioral health science, the wisdom of people with lived experience, and the accessibility digital technology enables, to bring the best mental health care directly to patients at risk for suicide on a digital device in the emergency department (ED). The solution extends that experience and support to daily life through its companion app, Jaspr-at-Home. Jaspr’s immediate access to on-demand guided assessments, powerful videos of survivors with lived experiences, and a library of coping skills helps deliver compassionate care and instill hope when it’s needed most.

“This incredible technology is a game-changer for people who are suicidal and seeking help in the ED,” says David Jobes, PhD, internationally recognized suicide expert and treatment developer of the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS). “It uses the natural wait times in ED crisis visits to deliver the highest quality suicide-focused care. Clinical research to date demonstrates Jaspr’s effectiveness for patients while also supporting busy health care providers. It is truly a win-win!”

“Allina Health is an amazing partner—truly a national leader in healthcare innovation,” added Koerner. “They excel at improving quality for patients and providers in ways that also reduce cost. Technology-assisted care has become crucial given the ongoing shortages of behavioral health professionals. We are proud to partner in helping Allina Health increase access to reliable, safe suicide care.”
